CONTRIBUTIONS and DONATIONS
8.0. OUTREACH and GIVING
When funds are available, in addition to assisting veterans of NMCB-58 who have a verifiable need, our Association will support other nonprofit organizations and scholarships for children of current and former Seabees.
8.1. Assistance to Members
Circumstances may arise when a member of our Association needs a helping hand in obtaining food, clothing, shelter, veteran services, or healthcare.
8.1.1. Need for assistance may manifest itself in many ways. Each situation is unique and assistance is considered in keeping with the spirit of our Association’s Mission and Goals Statement. Our outreach should attempt to resolve issues by assisting members with information that provides access to Federal, State or Local agencies that may provide assistance.
8.1.2. When circumstances of immediate need arise that cannot be remedied by other means, financial assistance may be considered. Monetary donations may be considered when delay in obtaining assistance from other sources would cause a hardship to our members. Monetary donations shall be:
• Intended to be emergency stopgap measures only
• Given on a priority of need basis
• Dependent on availability of resources
• Vetted to verify need
• Value of grant is situational (depending on need) and normally not to exceed $1,500.00.
• Limited to one donation per family or organization per year
8.1.3. Association members may present requests for assistance to any Board officer or director. When requests are received, the receiving Board member will verify the legitimacy of the request and recommend an appropriate course of action (COA) to the Board Chairman. The Association CFO will advise the Chairman on availability of funds to support the donation. The Chairman will recommend an appropriate COA to the full Board for approval.
8.2. Other Seabee Related Causes
Association members may present donation requests for other non-profit organizations to the Board. When requests are received, the Chairman of the Board will consider the legitimacy of the request and recommend an appropriate course of action to the full Board for approval.
Donations shall be:
• Dependent on availability of resources
• Vetted to ensure:
o Administrative costs of recipient organization are reasonable
o Vietnam veterans are not excluded from benefitting if recipient organization is a veterans organization
• Value of gift is situational (pending on need) and not exceed $1,500.00
• Limited to one donation per organization.
The Association CFO will advise the Board on availability of funds to support the donation.
8.2.1. Validation of Request for Outside Organizations Must Provide: • Statement of how the intended donation will benefit the Association • Description of the intended organization’s alignment to Seabee related causes • Intended organization’s annual administrative cost to benefits ratio
